Discovery Academy est un programme de développement des jeunes offrant des opportunités éducatives de qualité qui mettent en valeur les forces du Green River College et de son partenaire en éducation communautaire, le Highline College. Ce programme se concentre sur l'utilisation des forces individuelles tout en tirant parti des ressources combinées, du potentiel de sensibilisation et des dollars publicitaires pour desservir le réseau le plus large de notre communauté de South Sound. La Discovery Academy a le potentiel d'engager les futurs étudiants à un moment précoce et crucial dans le développement de l'éducation, et d'établir une relation avec les individus et leurs communautés à l'aube de l'éducation postsecondaire. Le travail est effectué selon une approche intégrée et collaborative avec d'autres éducateurs communautaires, partenaires communautaires, facultés et départements administratifs. Au cœur de ce que nous faisons, et espérons grandir, se trouve l'accès futur et l'éducation comme objectif principal.

Vision et objectifs

Offrir des expériences éducatives de qualité aux étudiants pré-universitaires dans le but de lutter contre la COVID et la perte d'apprentissage d'été, et d'initier les jeunes au paysage collégial. Ce programme a une approche axée sur des expériences d'apprentissage amusantes basées sur des projets et un programme engageant, conçu par des professeurs et des partenaires communautaires qui sont des experts dans leur domaine.

Looking for a chance to gain valuable experience and make a positive impact in your community? Look no further! We're excited to offer an unparalleled volunteer opportunity for juniors and seniors, where you'll have the chance to hone your skills, build new ones, and make a difference in the lives of young people.

As part of our team, you'll receive high-quality training and mentorship in a variety of areas including group management, camp procedures and rules, professional communication and conflict resolution, first aid, and leadership. You'll also have the opportunity to lead hands-on activities for groups of kids ages 8-14 and take part in other camp related functions. But the benefits of this experience don't stop there!

When you complete your volunteer commitment, you'll walk away with:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Green River Continuing Education Leadership & Communication Skills Certificate

  • Hiring Preference at 18 years of age for Camp Counselor positions, and early notification on future youth worker trainings.

This is an incredible opportunity for teens with an interest in youth work, recreation, leadership, and those considering careers or education in related fields. You'll have the chance to explore different careers, gain mentorship, and build a wealth of experience that you can apply to your future endeavors.
